It’s been almost five years since EA announced the third installment of the popular game Plants vs. Zombies, and it’s almost here. EA has announced that the game Plants vs. Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia (PvZ3) has been released for sale in some countries, including the UK, the Netherlands, Australia, the Philippines, and Ireland.
Like its predecessors, PvZ3 is a tower defense game where you’ll fend off hordes of zombies with animated plants. EA claims that the game will feature “new and returning characters,” and the gameplay will reflect the “classic battles of the first game.” PvZ3 will be a free-to-play game, but it will include microtransactions.
The original Plants vs. Zombies was released on PC and Mac in 2009 before making its way to mobile devices. The game expanded to even more platforms after EA acquired its developer, PopCap Games, in 2011. This acquisition also led to the development of Plants vs. Zombies 2, which was released in 2013. Around the same time, the game transitioned from a fixed fee of $2.99 to free-to-play.
EA claims that PvZ3 will become available in more countries “later,” as they gather feedback during the soft launch period.
