Director George Lucas criticized Hollywood studios for promoting feminism. This happened during a recent receipt of the “Golden Palm Branch” award at the closing of the Cannes Film Festival.
Lucas is not a fan of the overall modern trend of appointing women as bosses, which Hollywood uses to promote feminism:
“You can’t just put pants on a woman and expect her to become a hero. They can wear dresses, they can wear whatever they want. It’s brains, the ability to think, plan, and provide logistics – that’s what makes such people heroes,” Lucas said.
Lucas also responded to criticism directed at him for allegedly portraying women as weak in “Star Wars”:
“What do you think Princess Leia was? She’s the head of the rebellion. It’s she who takes this young man who knows nothing and this noisy, know-it-all guy who can’t do anything, and tries to save the rebellion with these clowns… The same goes for Queen Amidala,” the director added.
George Lucas released 6 feature films in the “Star Wars” franchise, after which in 2013 he sold his company LucasArts to Disney.
