Warner Bros. has made an official announcement: they are returning to Middle-earth.
During a meeting with investors at Warner Bros. Discovery on Thursday, following the release of financial results for the first quarter, CEO David Zaslav stated that the company is “currently in the early stages of script development” for new films based on “The Lord of the Rings.” According to him, these films are “expected to begin release in 2026” and will explore “storylines that have not yet been told.”
Zaslav mentioned that director Peter Jackson and his longtime scriptwriting partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens “will be involved in the work at every step.”
“The Lord of the Rings” is one of the most successful and respected franchises in history and represents a significant opportunity for our theatrical business,” said Zaslav.
