The popular dog Kabosu, the face of Dogecoin and other memes, has passed away

The popular dog Kabosu, the face of Dogecoin and several other memes, passed away early Friday morning, as written by her owner on their blog. She was over 17 years old.

“We will hold a farewell party for Kabo-chan on Sunday, May 26th. It will be held at Flower Kaori in Kotsu-no Mori, Narita City, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM,” the blog states.

Kabosu, a Shiba Inu, became an internet sensation back in 2010. A photograph of the dog with her paws crossed and a humorous expression on her face quickly went viral and became the basis for numerous memes. The well-known cookie brand Oreo even used this photograph in their advertising campaign.

In 2013, a cryptocurrency called Dogecoin was created, and Kabosu’s face became its symbol. The dog’s image appeared on the company’s coins and also on the jerseys of the English football club “Watford,” which was sponsored by Dogecoin.

In recent years, the dog had been ill and was moving around with the help of a walker.
